Menopause and Perimenopause

If you are experiencing symptoms of perimenopause or menopause, we can help you understand your symptoms and discuss the treatment and support options that may be right for you.

We can provide:

Menopause and perimenopause assessment and advice
Lifestyle guidance
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), where appropriate
HRT reviews and ongoing monitoring
Vaginal oestrogen treatment
Advice about other treatment options

You do not need to wait until your periods have stopped, or until symptoms become severe, before asking for advice.

Free Menopause Support for Eve Hill Patients

Patients at Eve Hill Medical Practice have access to Your Menopause by Harley Street at Home, an online menopause education and support platform.

It provides a range of resources to help you better understand and manage perimenopause and menopause, including:

Expert information about menopause symptoms and treatments
Menopause specialist-led sessions
On-demand videos and educational resources
Information about HRT
Sleep and emotional wellbeing support
Nutrition, exercise and weight-management advice
Lifestyle and self-care resources
An online menopause community
Opportunities to hear from menopause specialists and ask questions

The service is designed to complement the care you receive from us and help you feel better informed about menopause and the choices available to you.

It is an education and wellbeing service rather than a medical or diagnostic service. If you have symptoms that need assessment, are considering treatment or HRT, or are worried about a change in your health, please continue to contact the practice.

Contraception

We can help you choose and manage contraception based on your health, preferences and what is important to you.

Depending on clinical suitability and service availability, contraception may include:

Combined contraceptive pill
Progestogen-only pill
Contraceptive injection
Contraceptive implant
Hormonal coil (IUS)
Copper coil (IUD)
Emergency contraception
Contraception reviews

Get the Contraceptive Pill Directly from a Pharmacy

You may not need an appointment at the surgery to start or continue the contraceptive pill.

Through the NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service, participating community pharmacies can provide the contraceptive pill free of charge without you needing a prescription from a GP or nurse.

The service can help if you:

Want to start the contraceptive pill for the first time
Want to restart the pill after a break
Need a further supply of your usual contraceptive pill

Both the combined contraceptive pill and progestogen-only pill can be provided where clinically appropriate.

You will have a confidential consultation with the pharmacy team. They will ask about your health and, depending on the contraception you are considering, may need to check things such as your blood pressure, height and weight.

If the pharmacy service is not suitable for you, they will advise you about the most appropriate service to contact.

Participating pharmacies can also provide free oral emergency contraception through the NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service.

Not sure which contraception is right for you?

There is no single method that is best for everyone. Different methods vary in how they are used, their effectiveness, possible side effects and how they may affect your periods.

Periods, Bleeding and Pelvic Pain

Changes to your periods are common, but you do not have to simply put up with symptoms that are affecting your everyday life.

Please contact us if you are concerned about:

Heavy periods
Painful periods
Irregular periods or a change in your usual cycle
Periods lasting longer than usual
Bleeding between periods
Bleeding after sex
Periods that have stopped unexpectedly
Pelvic or lower abdominal pain
Pain during sex

We can assess your symptoms and discuss what may be causing them and what treatment options are available.

Depending on your symptoms, this may include medication, contraception, blood tests, examination, further investigations or referral to a specialist service.
Keeping a simple record of your periods, bleeding, pain and other symptoms before your appointment can be helpful.

When should I get checked?

Please arrange an appointment if your periods have become heavier, more painful or irregular, or if your symptoms are affecting your normal activities.
Bleeding between periods or after sex should also be checked, even though there are many possible causes.

If you have gone through the menopause – usually meaning you have had no periods for 12 months or more – any vaginal bleeding or spotting afterwards should always be assessed, even if it happens only once.

If you develop severe or worsening pelvic pain, particularly with heavy bleeding, feeling faint or if you may be pregnant, seek urgent medical advice through NHS 111 or, if symptoms are severe, emergency services.

Cervical Screening

Cervical screening helps prevent cervical cancer by checking for high-risk types of human papillomavirus (HPV), which can cause changes to the cells of the cervix.

People aged 25 to 64 who are eligible for NHS cervical screening are normally invited every five years. Please book your appointment when you receive your invitation.

If you were invited previously but did not attend, you do not need to wait for another invitation – please contact us to arrange an appointment.

If you have symptoms you are worried about, such as unusual bleeding or discharge, do not wait for your cervical screening appointment. Contact us so that your symptoms can be assessed separately.
